How to buy a domain name in installments: interest-free payment plans explained
Spread the cost of a domain over up to 24 months, with no interest and no credit check. How a domain payment plan differs from lease-to-own and rentals, what you can do on day one, and what happens if you stop paying.
A great domain can cost as much as a good laptop, and like a laptop you can pay for it over time. On SeeURL, every domain can be bought on a payment plan of up to 24 months, at the same total price as paying in full and with no interest. This guide explains how a domain payment plan works: what you can do right away, what waits for the last installment, and what happens if you stop.
Domain payment plans at a glance

Payment plan, lease-to-own or rental: what's the difference?
If you've shopped for domains before, you've seen three terms that sound alike but aren't:
- Domain rental: you pay monthly to use the name and never own it. When you stop, it's gone, whatever you paid.
- Lease-to-own: you use the name while you pay, and ownership passes to you at the end. Brokers and sales platforms often add fees or a higher price for this option.
- Installment purchase, which is what we offer: like lease-to-own, the domain becomes yours with the last payment, but the total is exactly the listed price. No fees, no interest, no financing company, no credit check.
What you can do with the domain from day one
As soon as your first installment clears, the domain appears in your dashboard and the DNS is yours. You can:
- Launch your website: point the A or CNAME record to the host you've chosen.
- Use it for email: turn on forwarding (hello@yourdomain.com to the inbox you already use) or set the MX records for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or vaymail.it.
- Set up redirects and DNSSEC from the same dashboard.
For your visitors and your customers, a domain on a payment plan works exactly like one paid in full. The only thing that waits is the formal change of ownership.
Why ownership transfers after the last payment
We own every domain we sell. On a payment plan, the domain stays registered to Nexia S.r.l. until the price is paid in full, the same way a seller keeps title to anything sold on installments. That's what lets us offer a plan with no interest and no credit check: there's no lender in the middle, no application and no hidden cost. With the last installment we file the change of registrant at the registry (for .it names, the procedure is set by the Registro .it), and the domain is yours, with your details kept out of the public WHOIS like all our domains.
Until then, two things wait: transferring the domain to another registrar and changing its owner. Under ICANN's Transfer Policy, transfers start from the registered owner, so they come after ownership. Everything else you can do from day one.
What a domain payment plan really costs: an example
Take a domain listed at €2,928. That's €2,400 plus 22% Italian VAT.
- Buying as an individual, you pay the listed price: 24 installments of €122.
- Buying for a business outside Italy with a VAT or tax ID, such as a US company with an EIN, you pay no VAT: 24 installments of €100.
No interest, no setup fee, no closing cost: the installments add up to the price. The first year of renewal for the domain and its DNS is included; from the second year, renewal costs the amount shown on the domain page. What happens if you stop paying
You can stop whenever you want, without giving a reason. The condition is simple, and we state it before you pay: you lose the use of the domain, and the installments you've paid aren't refunded. The domain goes back on sale. There are no refunds on domains, whether paid in full or in installments, because a domain registered in someone's name can't be undone.
That's why we recommend a payment plan when you've settled on the name and just want to spread the cost, not while you're still deciding. Unsure? Call us first at +39 02 500 427 87, Monday–Friday 9 AM–7 PM and Saturday 9 AM–4 PM, Italian time (CET/CEST).
How to set up a payment plan
- On the domain page, choose "installments" and the number of months.
- At checkout, say whether you're buying as a business or an individual, pick your country and enter your card.
- The first installment is charged right away, the next ones monthly on the same card.
- Your dashboard shows payments made and payments left, and lets you update your card.
- With the last installment, you get confirmation that the domain is registered in your name.
What stays the same either way
The listed price, the first year of renewal, the DNS dashboard with email forwarding, WHOIS privacy, renewal reminders 90, 30 and 7 days before each due date, and support by phone and email, with a reply within 24 hours, usually much sooner. Only two things change: when the domain is registered in your name, and when you can move it to another registrar.
Payment plan or pay in full?
Pay in full when you need the domain in your name right away, for example to file a trademark or to show investors that the name is yours. Choose installments when you need the domain live now for your site and email and would rather spread the cost over the year your project gets off the ground. Either way the price is the same, there's no broker and no commission, and the invoice comes from Nexia S.r.l., the Milan company that owns the domain.
